About Stephanie

I grew up in the beautiful Berkshire foothills of Connecticut and have lived with and loved dogs all my life.  After completing my undergraduate degree at Smith College, I left New England for the balmy, temperate weather and sunny skies of Southern California, where I have lived ever since. I am currently employed as an entertainment rights research paralegal at a major motion picture studio and recently earned a masters degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica, where I serve part-time as adjunct faculty.  I practice predictive animal astrology, and enjoy analyzing the charts  of new litters, as well as transits affecting mature dogs and horses.  This exciting and relatively new area of astrology is proving to be a highly accurate method of analyzing and predicting performance, health, temperament and compatibility.

My life in English Setters began a month to the day that I lost my heart dog, a Golden Retriever/Terrier mix rescue named Princess Grace.  As I realized my fourteen treasured years with Gracie were clearly coming to a close, I knew there was no way to ever replace her, and knew I would want another puppy to be a companion for me and Gracie's best pal, Baby Eleanor, a dear little Terrier mix rescue.

I dove into an intensive period of researching dog breeds as a way to keep my head during the extended and inevitable heartbreak of knowing I was losing my dearest friend.  After much investigation and thorough research, it was clear to me that the English Setter was the breed that most closely matched the temperament, tenderness, loyalty, intelligence, althleticism, beauty and joy that Gracie defined.  After Gracie died, I set to the task of locating "the" puppy for me, and after many inquiries and much more research, I welcomed my first English Setter, Isadora, a gorgeous puppy bitch from Hemlock Lane Kennels in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, into my home and into my heart.  Isadora launched a passionate and enduring love affair with this sweetest, smartest and most elegant breed.  Since then, I have been gifted with another amazing English Setter, Simon, otherwise known as CH. Lampliter N Honeygait American Idol.  This beloved, funny and mellow boy is much adored by me and his two "girlfriends" Isadora and Baby Eleanor.  I am looking forward to a lifetime of ever-deepening love for and knowledge of this magnificent breed.

I am a member in good standing of the English Setter Association of America (E.S.A.A.), the Inland Empire English Setter Club (I.E.E.S.C.), and the California English Setter Club (C.E.S.C.).  I am committed to upholding the E.S.A.A. Code of Ethics and the highest standards of care and consideration in my dealings with others.  My dogs live in the house and are members of my family, and I honor them as treasured companions, wise spirits, and mostly, as the divine canines that they are.  I consider it a priviledge to be involved in the sport of pure bred dogs, and to have been the lucky owner of several wonderful pure bred and mixed breed pets and rescues over the years.

About My Dogs

Baby Eleanor was a truly priceless and utterly irreplaceable rescue dog, and honorary English Setter! She was an adult when she came to me on January 28, 1995, so it is not clear exactly just how young she was when she left for Heaven on October 31, 2010... but in my heart she will always be my baby. Ellie had a heart as big as Texas, and the personality to match. I am very blessed to have found her, and blessed that she chose us as her family.  Please visit Baby Eleanor's page to see this irresistable cutie for yourself.  The world will never be quite as shiny-bright without her here.

Isadora is a beautiful orange bitch out of Hemlock Lane Kennel. She is a double Bradley granddaughter, sired by Clue, CH. Stardom's Magic Tri Summer Hill and Ruby, CH. Hemlock Lane Ruby Red Slipper. She is the spitting image of her very refined, beautiful and feminine mom! Thank you Rebecca Yuhasz-Smith for entrusting me with this gorgeous sweetheart. Please visit Isadora's page for more about this stunning, well-balanced, typey bitch with an exquisite pedigree.

Simon is an exceptionally handsome, solid, charismatic dog who came to me from Lori and Dennis Rimmer in November of 2006. I can't thank the Rimmers enough for recognizing the instant bond between us and for allowing Simon to come live with me. Simon is bred by Dave and Judy Mates and John and Mary Nowak, and is co-owned by me with Dave and Judy Mates.  Simon's sire is CH. Honeygait Surprise Addition, better known as Pepsi, and his dam is Fever, the famous BIS/BISS CH. Honeygait N Lampliter Fever. Please visit Simon's page for more on this handsome Stud and his outstanding pedigree!
